Producer Joe Henry invited five of the greatest living artists of soul: Ann Peebles, Billy Preston, Mavis Staples, Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint to record new music together, and the result is a group of new songs recorded with a classic soul sound. Although not initially conceived as a benefit, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a decision was made to donate the proceeds from CD sales to victims of the storm. New Orleans natives, Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint performed selections from the release for the Today Concert Series in Humanity Plaza. Now it’s up to us to play our part, as the audience.
